Doxter S was staying at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas last week. The hotel had placed a large banner over the windows on the 32nd floor that read “Las Vegas Strong”. Everything and everyone seemed the same. Saturday Night there was life on the strip an in the hotel that lasted until dawn. Sunday Morning was warm and sunny. Party goers with a hangover were laying around the Wave Pool or floating down the Lazy River. Cocktails were being served (Hair of the Dog).
Out on the Strip, across from McCarran International Airport, there is a memorial to the victims of the tragic snd senseless shooting. The entire city seems surreal. People trying to go on with their lives but not able to forget what had happened. What happened in Vegas will Stay in Vegas for s long time.
When I wrote Vegas a few years ago this tragedy was never a possibility. Vegas was where everyone went to Party All Night and seek traditional entertainment, Comedy acts, Magic Acts, Cirque de Soleil, Elvis Impersonators, etc. Today there is the Stratosphere Tower where you and your friends can drive a car over the edge! There is a Shark Reef with man-eaters surrounding you in a glass tunnel. Janet Jackson was performing the night we arrived.
I do agree that Vegas is Strong and will continue to attract millions of visitors every year. Las Vegas in Spanish means “The Meadows”, like an oasis in the desert. Today Vegas is an emotional Oasis where people can briefly forget their daily struggles from work or life in general. I just hope and pray that Vegas will never suffer another tragedy like the one they had in 2017.
